Tika's Story
[Back to Index]
|
In November of 2001, Tika was tossed over the wall at the [now defunct] animal shelter near Le Galion beach. We were there the next
day looking to rescue another dog, and this little 3 month old pup was gamboling about with the other dogs and came over
and wanted to play with us. We took her to our chalet and, with the help of friends, took on the task of cleaning her up.
We lost count, but we estimate we removed over 300 ticks from this small 8 pound pup! The name Tika sounded appropriate.

Tika enjoyed daily morning walks down Orient Beach. Later, she had the privilege of riding with us in the airplane cabin on the way home.
The photo shows her on her first day in the US. She hadn't yet grown the long fur that the cooler weather would later bring out.
Tika soon got a home in Maine with some of Lady's relatives, so they are able to pal around together in the
summer at the Lake and even get to hike and ski together sometimes. The two are like sisters. When they are together, they
engage in fierce puppy games, such as jaw wrestling, every morning. And they like nothing better than to go into the
forest to hunt squirrels as a team, although the squirrels are fairly safe from their efforts.

Tika gets to travel with her family and also loves to chase chipmunks in her large yard in Maine
and to take walks with her younger neighbor Macy, another St. Martin pup.
Compare Tika's fine shaggy coat and plumed tail to the picture of her arrival in the US.
