Lady was discovered in 1999 wandering the beach at Le Galion. It took several days to capture this shy dog, then aged about nine months.
She was so fearful as to be almost catatonic, but a kind woman spent several hours sitting with her and talking gently until Lady
responded. After being cleaned of hundreds of ticks, this 20 lb. beauty was shown off to visitors on Orient Beach and found a home with David and Jo-Ann.
During morning walks on the beach, Lady's head was now held high and her tail was up. Calmed with half a "doggie downer", Lady
made the flight to the US and began her new life.
Lady enjoys her life in Massachusetts where she guards the yard and chases any squirrel that sets foot on her territory.
She also loves to chase deer, but she got chased by a deer once when she interfered with its young.
Lady keeps in touch with several of her island cousins and sometimes invites them for sleepovers.
Here you see Lady and Tika hanging out together. They're both gentle and loving pups.
Lady's family enjoys doing all the things that Lady likes, so she gets to go to the Lake in the summer, cross-country
skiing in the winter, and backpacking all year round. Lady's little snow booties turn a lot of heads
on the ski trails. When hiking, her backpack has the same effect. (She can carry 5 pounds.)
April 2006 Update:
While spending the weekend in the mountains, Lady protected her back yard
by chasing a 300 pound bear up a tree.
Of course, once the bear looked down and realized she was being
confronted by a 20 pound coconut retriever, she jumped down and
reversed their roles. Daddy had to shoo the bear away.
