Belle's Story

[Back to Index]

On the French side of St. Martin, the policy is to kill any dogs that are found as strays. Even if someone wants to adopt the dog, they won't release it except to its original owner if they show up and pay a fine. Belle (originally Tinkerbelle) was only a day away from execution when someone managed to spirit her away from the authorities.

While on the lam at Orient Beach, Belle kept company with Café, another protege. Both of them were shortly thereafter on a plane to the US. After a few weeks in temporary care, Belle moved to her new family in Maine in November 2002.

Belle is an exceptionally sweet dog and spends her days at home or riding in the front seat of Ernie's truck where she has a special seat all her own.

Hello there
Belle is quite an avid hunter and patrols the bird feeder in the back yard to keep the squirrels away. This mellow dog is a really good girl unless someone happens to leave a shopping bag full of toilet paper in the living room as you can see in the pictures. Belle looks really proud of herself.

Hmm- what are these funny white paper toys!?     A work of art!
Belle spends summers at Ernie's place on Chebeague Island off the coast of Maine patrolling the ocean front and watching the seagulls. For her, being on the beach is like going back to her roots. (Only the water is a lot colder!)

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
